Blank Landscape: The Trees & Me Inside

Materials:Vine charcoal, timber objects - found chair, fallen branches & seedpods, roses, string, glue, gesso paint & an overhead projector.

Reflections:

Instead of canvas timber objects were painted.

Drawn upon with charcoal.

Collected in manicured parks these trees discard their shade.

Chairs break leaving shadows of purpose.

Roses wilt only held smiling by a dried plastic film.

Suspending & reaching out from flat branches.

A room with wall palings, a skirting that shelves a procession:

Seeds sailing in search for a cracked floorboard...

that whisper of times when the wind could move them.

Time warps with a loosening weft...

and as the days went by I stayed inside with the trees.

I felt befriended by the objects made of wood chips, timber and grains.

I felt connected in our displacement.

I felt supported, I felt drawn in.

These are shadows drawing from woven undulating sculptures inspired by rain droplet forms.

‘As We Unfold’

Rebekah Evans, Rachael Wellisch and Emma Gardner come together for an in-situ drawing performance at ‘The Pod’ in Brunswick Street Mall, Brisbane. The activation of the space plays on the notions of public versus private as they occupy ‘The Pod’ for sessions over three days from Tuesday 21st until Thursday 23rd of February. Initially concealed by the blue of indigo dyed fabric walls, they will unpick the threads and re-work the surfaces, slowly revealing windowed connections with the exterior world. The silhouettes of the artists as they work within the space will respond to gesture and the action of drawing, while the unpicking of fabric will reveal the creation of line and mark making.

‘As We Unfold’ responds to time, materiality and collaboration through the process of making within an activated public space that is slowly ‘undone’ through drawing.

Orb Drops hang over the creek at Jungle Love Festival 2017, reflecting dappled light as the scratched CD’s shine once more. Working in collaboration with artist collective Clustr, this work blends a range of techniques to create an organic, plant-like installation made from a combination of found and recycled materials. This otherworldly installation is an interactive object that references psychedelic and geometric patterns and the natural environment.

Clustr, a collective of BNE artists are to create a large-scale installation for WESAF, in collaboration with musical wonderland gig– C H U R C H.

In emphasis of the improvisational, soulful vibes of C H U R C H, Clustr will transform West End local bar, The Bearded Lady, to an otherworldly experience entitled, ‘Feel’. Leading in from the street, Clustr’s installation will combine soft sculpture, immersive fiber weavings and video collage to circumvent the C H U R C H musicians as they channel the divine. In reference to the ritualistic, psychedelic patterns the tactile, ‘Feel’ will activate the space to further enhance sensory contemplation.
